How To Let Go Of The Past (Be Free)

You Are Not Your past… Unless You Decide To.

Are you your past?

Do you wish your past was different?

Do you think your past hinders you to do something you wanted to do for a long time?

Then let me tell you…

You Are Not Your Past

You are what you learned from the past, but you are not who you have been in the past. You can decide to start a new life today. If you want to.

All it takes is a decision to say: “The past shaped me, but it’s not who I am. The past is over. My old self is gone. I am here to take charge of my life. I am here to kick ass!”

And then to do it from now on.

If you blame someone or are angry, frustrated, or disappointed by someone and what they did to you in the past, ask yourself:

Is this blame, anger, frustration, or disappointment helping you? Is it serving you?

Or Is It Time To Let It Go?

People often blame parents, teachers, or society for what happened to them and the circumstances of their lives. I was no exception to that.

Till I realized as long as I blame someone for the circumstances of my life, I give my power away to them. Because as long as they are the reason why I live the life I live, I cannot change it.

Only after I took full responsibility and stopped the blame game, I could change my life.

Assume full responsibility for your life. Drop the blame, the anger, the frustration, and the disappointment.

Take Charge Of Your Life And Change It

Also, think about this: If you would solve all your challenges to be able to live your dream life, could you still blame the person you are blaming right now?

And for blame, you can insert resentment, anger, or whatever you want.

  • If you lived your dream life, would there still be a reason to be mad at someone you are mad at right now?
  • If you lived your dream life, would there still be a reason to resent someone you resent right now?
  • If you lived your dream life, would there still be a reason to be frustrated by someone you are frustrated by right now?

Probably not.

Because if you lived your dream life, there would be no reason to blame someone for what they did or didn’t do to you in the past.

Because the past led you to your dream life.

Let Go Of The Past
What can you learn from the past and what can you let go? What do you need to let go?

So instead of looking back and saying: “He, she, or they did this and that to me.”

Why not say: “I will let go of the past and concentrate on the present. I will live my dream life. Because if I live my dream life, I don’t have any reason to blame someone for what they did to me. Because my past led me to my dream life, without it, as horrible as it might be, I might not be here.”

The kicker is, some people are unhappy with their lives because they want to show other people: “You did this to me. If you hadn’t done this I could have been happy, but I am not, and it’s your fault. I will show you by staying unhappy. I will punish you by punishing myself… by living an unfulfilled life.”

I am not saying that this is you or that you, in particular, should leave your past behind. But if you are blaming someone, realize that the anger, the blame, and the resentment is hurting you.

Letting go helps you, even if that person deserves the blame or resentment because they did something wrong.

I am also not suggesting that people that do horrible things shouldn’t be punished. But to say: “I am justified in my thoughts by your behavior,” will hurt you.

It’s not about whether you are right or wrong. It’s about what serves you better.

The past already happened and just because something happened in the past, doesn’t mean you still need to be held captive by it.

Free yourself. Free your mind. Become who you always wanted to be and start a new life.

Live your dreams and show everybody that the past doesn’t define you unless you want it.

You can do it. Take charge of your life.

Actions Steps:

  1. Let go of the past. Realize you are not your past. Your past only defines you if you let it.
  2. If you blame somebody for the circumstances of your life, ask yourself: Is this blame helping me to realize my full potential or am I hurting myself, because I give the power to change my life away to them?
  3. From now on, take full responsibility for everything in your life. Reclaim your power and reclaim your life.
